“Since its opening in May 2019, the reimagined Fountain Square Plaza has become the heart and soul of Downtown Evanston; a human-centered, all-seasons, community gathering space.”
When the City of Evanston decided to update Fountain Square Plaza in the heart of Downtown Evanston, Teska jumped at the opportunity to reimagine such an important public space. Team Teska (led by Principal, Jodi Mariano) assisted the City during the 2014-2015 Fountain Square Visioning Assignment by leading community outreach activities. Residents rallied around the idea of reclaiming and activating this underutilized, historic gathering space and their input was used to guide preliminary concept plans.
Following the Visioning Assignment, Teska was hired again to develop design plans to guide construction as part of the 2016 Renovations Assignment. The team, which included Christopher B Burke Engineering and Waterworx Fountain Designers, worked closely with residents, neighboring businesses, City Staff, Downtown Evanston, war veterans, and a dedicated Steering Committee to develop and implement the design plans. The result? An interactive, one-of-kind, human-centered, all-seasons, community gathering place.
Congrats to the City of Evanston, Downtown Evanston, Teska Principal, Jodi Mariano, and the entire Fountain Square Team!
