Project Highlights

• Community engagement, including a project website and stakeholder interviews, built on the 2014 Comprehensive Plan’s extensive participation and interaction with the community
• Three subarea plans focused redevelopment efforts
• New Riverfront Plan, including an outdoor amphitheater, botanical gardens, splash pad and playground, river overlooks and walking paths, mixed use development, and tie-ins with the new YMCA community facilities

The City of Ottawa focused its 2022 Comprehensive Plan Update on three subareas, each with distinct characteristics serving the wider community, such as the Downtown Riverfront, I-80/ IL Route 71 Interchange Area, and Norris Drive (Rt. 6) Corridor.

This new Comprehensive Plan builds on these past successes and charts a course for the City’s future. The Plan focuses on a range of community aspects, including economic development, land use, subarea plans, transportation, and parks. It is a guide to community development, outlining a vision of how Ottawa desires to grow and evolve over time.

The Plan highlights strategies for enhancing subareas, with actions ranging from streetscape enhancements to redevelopment opportunities.
