Infill development, alley activation, and new connections between a Metra station and neighborhoods
Elburn, IL
Project Highlights
The Village of Elburn, a far western Chicago suburban with a rural character, is home to nationally recognized Ream’s Meat Market and regional favorites like Obscurity Brewing. Despite the short distance, there are few existing connections to encourage Metra riders or visitors to spend time in downtown Elburn. Through the RTA’s Community Planning Program, the Village retained Teska to lead a TOD planning process to enhance connectivity and better link this major transit asset to downtown. The Plan identified transportation improvements and redevelopment sites in the vicinity of the Elburn Metra station, the Union Pacific – West line terminus. The Elburn Station residential development is underway and will add approximately 1,000 residential units in walking or biking distance of the station.
“I am very pleased with the entire process and final product. We are already using the plan to apply for bike and pedestrian grants.”
